PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello and welcome to the web site for the Tallahassee Dietetic Association. This site exists largely due to the good graces of Veronica Wright, a webmaster who has donated her time to make this possible. Thank you, Veronica!
TDA plans to have some sort of event at least every other month. Many will involve CEU's. We also will send out announcements to our membership about other items of interest .. jobs, educational opportunities, volunteerism, and anything we think might be of interest to our local dietitians.
Since I am a relative newbie in the field of dietetics, having made a mid-life career change from the environmental field (as if anybody really knows when the middle of their life is?!?) I look forward to getting to know better our talented pool of area dietitian professionals, and am honored to serve you this year in the capacity of president of TDA. We'll endeavor to keep the web site a current as possible, but all time-sensitive, important announcements will be emailed directly to members.
Best regards from the TDA board and myself,
June Wiaz, MS RD
2009-2010 TDA President SPOTLIGHT DIETITIAN
Andrea Farmer, MS, RD, LD/N
Andrea Farmer, our TDA Treasurer, has been a Registered Dietitian in the Tallahassee area for the past 30 years! She is also a Certified Personal Trainer and Jazzercise Instructor who has taught exercise classes for over 18 years. Andrea received her undergraduate degree from Douglass College in New Jersey, completed a dietetic internship, also in New Jersey, and obtained her Master’s degree from Florida State University. After working in a variety of settings ranging from clinical dietetics to food service management to private practice to education, she recently joined the Florida Department of Health as a Compliance Specialist for the Child Care Food Program. As a member of the Field Operations Headquarters staff, she coordinates and tracks some of the monitoring activities of the field personnel who make sure that day care centers and their sponsors comply with Child Care Food Program regulations. It is a very interesting position that utilizes the wide variety of skills she has developed in many different settings. In her free time, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, exercising, singing, reading, and scrapbooking.
Quote: “I believe that, at all ages, a healthy diet and exercise are the two most important lifestyle factors leading to overall health and well-being”.
